Keep Council & Community informed about big developments

As we have found with the recent planning request for a 10 story development on Bridge Rd, the community is often kept in the dark over major planning permits for months.
One part solution for this is for a report to come up to council each month listing all development of 5 or more stories.

The motion that needs to be passed at council - and it may be possible to do it during the 'request for reports' section of the council meeting - is

Motion: That council is presented with a report each month containing a summary - including permit number, address, brief description, and current status - of any planning application that has been lodged (but not yet approved) for any development of 5 or more stories.

Questions about the 10 story Bridge rd development

Questions to Council re the 10 story development proposal for bridge rd - planning permit PL07/0876

  1. Why, when council received the planning application on the 24/09/2007, did it wait until more than two months (until 29/11/2007) to advertise it to residents - thus only allowing them the few weeks over xmas to respond?
  2. Until what date does council have (had) to make a decision before the applicant can go directly to VCAT because council hasn't made a decision?
  3. On what date did they developer start talking to Council about this development (assuming it was pre application)? Were ward councilors involved?
  4. Will the planning decision for this application be made by an officer under delegation, IDAC, or the full Council?
  5. Given the wide spread concern these types of developments create, how widely did council letter box to notify residents about it? Were any adds taken out in the local media?
